National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing.
On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.
Last year I participated in NaNoWriMo and found that it really helped keep me on track with the project I was working on, which later became my first novel, Remembering Lauren. The buddy system, the fun word sprints, the local gatherings… they all inspired me to complete a very rough draft that would someday be in the hands of readers.
While it took about 6 months of revising, editing, filling of plot holes and the creation of my book cover to get Remembering Lauren to publication, I really believe it was that initial burst of dedicated writing that ensured my success.
This year I have a complete outline and character sketches ready to write the sequel to the book. This next installment will be much grittier and may not be for as gentle of audiences as the first, but to get the story out, the feint of heart will have to bear with me. As I delve into this new plot line, I’ll be sharing bits and pieces with my audience and fans. My handle in NaNo is Misha72, should anyone like to add me as a buddy during this exciting month.
Also, in honor of NaNoWriMo and the jump it gave me on my novel, Remembering Lauren will go on sale November 1st – 4th for just $1.99 for the Kindle version. At 4pm November 4th it will go up to $2.99 through the 8th, then return to it’s regular Kindle price of $4.99.
Hope to see everyone writing on Tuesday! Good Luck!!
